9 signed original drawings approx. 12 1/4” x 7 3/4”, separately matted, a photostat of similar dimensions, comprising all but 2 of the full page illustrations of the book. 6 original drawings approx. 4 3/4” by 2 7/8” in one mat, comprising a selection from the smaller illustrations in the book. The book is 4to., bound in full white leather, the cover blind embossed with a brig under full sail, black leather label gilt. Spine scuffed a bit, but nice in the original slipcase.
The book one of 355 numbered copies (this is copy number 1) signed by Earle Winslow, and with his ownership stamp at the bottom of the front free endpaper. This book was the recipient of the Limited Editions Best Books of the Year award in 1939, according to a note on the back of each drawing’s matt.
A fascinating and wonderful collection of images, the book being on a very interesting topic by itself, with the provenance and original drawings this is quite an appealing collection.
